Alright, I’m sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly of this project. Today was pretty ugly for a while.I REALLY wanted to quit this whole project, but I’m sticking in there. Thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement. Without all of you, I don’t think I’d make it.

Maria, sympathy on the low point. We aren’t used to having to plan to make sure we don’t get to the point our hunger overrides our thinking because there’s always food to hand and we can always afford to buy it. When you’re hungry, you really can’t think straight. It’s like a little mini-depression — things seem worse than they are. Is it possible to carry some sort of snack with you when you leave in the morning, or is that out of the budget?

Hang in there! You’re a third of the way through, and you can reach your goal if you really want to – which I know you can and will do.

I couldn’t imagine! At least on a “diet” you can fall off the wagon and then get back on again but for you that would result in failing the project – and everyone would know!

Maybe this is what I need to do – start a blog to keep me accountable for sticking to a healthy lifestyle!

KEEP IT UP MARIA – WE ARE “ROOTING” (nice pun) FOR YOU!

I know you can do it! There’s lots to forage in my (unmowed) back yard. Dandelions, sorrel, mullein, morels, chickweed, henbit… it all tastes terrible, lol.

Think about what makes bland or bitter foods taste better. Salt, sugar, spices, oil, butter. Are you allowing yourself to use taste-enhancers you have on hand? Most Americans are used to having these in excess, so you may be missing these as much as more variety in your food.

    Good luck on your journey!!

Thanks for all the encouragement, everyone! I felt a lot better after my dinner, which consisted of some delicious local frozen corn (bartered for pet care), and some toasted cheese bread made with $.99 bread and imitation cheese food product.

@valeree – I planned ahead a bit, just not far enough. I always carry my trusty jar of peanut butter, but the day was so hectic I just didn’t eat enough of it.

@Marty – I am definitely missing variety. So much of my food is brown (oatmeal, brown rice, wheat bread, peanut butter) that it’s kind of wearing on me. I’m using dried spices and some cheap vegetable oil, but I need to improve on using things like the bits of chives and mint that are popping up in my yard now.

    Don’t worry, I’m not quitting 🙂

You can do it, Maria! You’re one of the most strong-willed peeps I know. Soybeans, peas, lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas, pinto beans…all yumm.

I’ve enjoyed reading your blog. Sorry I missed the Mitch Albom interview.

@ Beefy & Chrissy – Thanks, kids! I’ll make it, I was just having a tough moment. Hope this persuades you not to adopt my diet plan…
