Saw your story via the GR Press via Twitter.

Rebecca Blood did "Eating Organic on a Food Stamp Budget" last year in a blog - see http://www.rebeccablood.net/thriftyo/ . She had the advantage of being in California during harvest season - there are some good recipes there.

Think about sprouting some of your lentils.

@Jodi - Thanks, cuz! I'm doing my best not to get cranky, but I failed miserably last night. Poor Paul. Sometimes I don't know why he puts up with me!

@Ginger - Trying it for a day would be awesome! Just don't live solely on Ramen noodles.

I found myself thinking about your project again today, so along the lines of what your friend Jodi pledged, I will:
1. Donate.
2. Try to get up the ambition to try it myself for a day.

Hi Maria.
I received your email and caught up with your progress through the blog. I'm proud of you while still thinking that you are a little crazy. Kidding.
I will:
Donate.
Be keeping current with your experiment.
Provide multiple levels of support, accessible to you any time.
And hoping that we don't cross paths until you can have caffeine again.
Love you and I'll be listening tonight!

Hey, I read aboput what you're doing in the Press yesterday and I wanted to say it's really great. I stared a blog earlier this year called Frugelman. My goal was to document my attempt to feed my family of five for $100 per week. I haven't really posted as often as I had planned but I will be posting more often. So far I've average $128 which is pretty good considering that the national average for a family of four is $211. I'm also trying to give smart shopping and cooking advice. Some recommendations for you are split peas, potatoes, cabbage, lentils and other beans. You can buy 25 lb bags of flour at Sam's Club for under $10. With just water and yeast you can bake pizza dough or foccacia bread maybe topped with sauted onions and garlic and a drixzle of olive oil.. Pasta and rice are also international staples that will keep you well fed. You can buy big cans of tomato sauce at Sam's for around $3.00.
